With the launch of the Social Enterprise Association (SE Association), social entrepreneurs can now look to the networking platform for greater opportunities like mentorship for their businesses. While the site hasn’t launched yet, the Association aims to bring together all players in the social enterprise space, including social entrepreneurs (duh!), social enterprises (no surprise here either) and academic institutions (like the NUS Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy) and businesses.
In his speech made at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, talked about the Social Enterprise Association acting as a “catalyst to strengthen the culture of social entrepreneurship and social enterprises and create innovative solutions for some of our most challenging social and environmental issues“.
The Association has already apparently signed up some 130 members, with this 130 being a mix of individuals, enterprises and businesses. There will be one-time membership fees as well as annual fees.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of resources will be present to aid social enterprises.
